Located just west of Elko, Nevada, the California Trail Center illuminates the history of the first pioneers, emigrants, and mountain men who took the 2,000 mile trek westward to California. Exhibits also highlight the interactions with Native American tribes along the way that helped shape their journey. Through stunning exhibits and living history, learn about how they traveled, what they saw, and what possibly encouraged such an arduous and unknown journey.
Southern Nevada Conservancy first became involved with the California Trail Center when a non-profit partner was being sought for project management of the commission and installation of the exhibits, props and murals that make the Trail Center so impressive. Due to our retail experience, we were later asked to help set up the book store and our fondness for the Trail Center and its role in the rural Nevada community of Elko has led us to continue operating that book store today. We also manage grant funding, accept donations and provide staff to help with marketing, visitor programs and special projects.
